Week 1...lord help me!

Well, I made it through week 1 at NWCU School of Law.  The biggest task is finding enough time to do the work.  Since I have a legal background, some of the work and topics I have dealt with before.  They also break things up into 4 week modules which keep you on somewhat of a schedule.

I notice that barely anyone posts on the discussion board and they don't remove the posts so there are some posts that go back years.  Frankly, I don't care.  When I need help, I can get it.

I enjoy the independence but the work is just as demanding as it would be at a brick and mortar school.

Until next time...

Starting law school at 46... almost 47

I decided to start my legal studies at Northwestern California University School of Law.  I am sure you are asking why in the world would I attend a non ABA approved school, let alone an online school.  Here is why..

For one thing, my age.  I have other obligations so going to a brick and mortar school is just not feasible for me.  Plus in Georgia, there are only 5 schools in the whole state so moving is not an option.

I am sure they accept everyone but I have heard stories that other student get no help or it takes forever for them to get a sign in code.  I got mine right away.  Now, the Balckboard platform they use is a bit confusing.  I have used blackboard before and it was well organized.  NWCU seems a bit convoluted with a lot of old posts.  Not a big deal for me.  The less I have to interact with people the better.

One thing if anyone is thinking about going here... buy your books early.  The booklist is online.  If you start before you get all the materials you will fall behind in a hurry.

One drawback that I came across that wasn't required a couple of years ago is now you are required to buy a home survival kit by one of the professors.  It is $525.  If you manage to make it through the entire 4 years and pass the baby bar, you will get most of the money refunded.

I got all my info from Blackboard once I got my log in.  I read all the syllibi which pretty much say the same thing but some of it is geared to the specific class and even that is all the same, just a different subject matter.  I labeled everything that was important.

One thing I did like was they break out each class into 4 week modules so you have at least some sort of organization so you know what is expected when.

I have a legal background and 2 of my 3 degrees are in the legal area.  This is just on a larger scale.

I have 2 kids.. teenagers.. i work part time and run an ebay business that grossed almost $150K last year.  Yeah... I am busy.  I am fortunate that the part time job is slow so I can work on my studies there.  My boss won't mind.

I am excited and nervous at the same time.  I have taken online classes before so as long as I can get what I need done when I am supposed to, I will be in good shape.

Wish me luck!  I will keep you posted...  maybe read this before bed.  I should help with the insomnia...lol
